Despite being a centerpiece of the Green New Deal and a Democratic priority, mentions of the words "mass transit" and "public transportation" that were once common on television news all but disappeared starting in July 2017 and have been barely mentioned in the two and a half years since. Early in the pandemic, public transportation's potential role in spreading Covid-19 caused a surge in mentions, but since June it has all but disappeared.
