The Term 'Snowflake' Came Into Media Popularity On Fox News In The Aftermath Of Trump's Election

The term "snowflake" has become a catch-all used to criticize millennials, but when did the term come into being?

The timeline below shows mentions of "snowflake OR snowflakes" on CNN, MSNBC and Fox News since July 2009. Immediately clear is the seasonal spike around December of each year as television coverage captures major winter storms. Yet perhaps most apparently is the massive vertical surge on Fox News in November 2016 in the days and weeks following Trump's election and extending all through his first year in office. CNN and MSNBC barely mention the term, suggesting it is uniquely a Fox News term, though even Fox has largely curtailed its usage over the course of 2019.
