Television News Is Ramping Up Recession Coverage

Mentions of a recession across CNN, MSNBC and Fox News began rising in March of this year and have surged since April, rising vertically across all three channels. Mentions are still far less than August 2019, which represented the highest single-month intensity of mentions of the past decade and is still at or below their 2009-2012 levels, but are increasing linearly.

While data for Bloomberg, CNBC and Fox Business only goes back to 2014, it too shows that current mentions, while rising since February 2022 and surging since March, are still below their August 2019 levels, though they continue to climb vertically.
