“Social Distancing” Disappears From News During Protests But Begins Reappearing

The phrase “social distancing” leapt into the television news lexicon from around Feb. 26 and became a household name from around March 11. However, from a peak of around May 25 as media outlets condemned the lack of social distancing as cities across America began opening up, the phrase all but disappeared from the news as the George Floyd protests spread across the country. However, since June 3 all three stations are beginning to slowly ramp up their mentions again as public health authorities grapple with the potential impact on the pandemic’s spread.
