It was pointed out that at least five of these did not appear to be news-related programming. Rerunning Gemini on that list of five titles multiple times a week later the results change each time. Rerunning the complete list of 1,498 unique EPG program titles, we get wildly different results from last time. Something else also emerges. Last week Gemini 1.5 Pro filtered the 1,498 unique program titles and returned a list of 837 titles that it determined were news. A review of that list yields a surprising finding: of those 837 titles, more than half were Gemini incorrectly repeating titles randomly throughout the list, with Gemini actually returning just 343 unique titles amongst that list of 837 entries. Running the original list of 1,498 titles a week later Gemini returns 242 "unique" titles of which 181 are actually unique, suggesting this random duplication during filtering tasks is endemic. Worse, last week Gemini returned 202 unique program titles as news that it marked as non-news this time, while it added 40 titles this time as news that it marked as non-news last time. This raises existential concerns about how LLMs can be used for classification tasks like this that will require further investigation.
