Google web searches for the topic of “censorship” have been remarkably stable since mid-2012 in the US (top timeline), but globally (bottom timeline), they increased sharply from late 2008 through late 2010 and have been stable since, but have been increasing since the start of 2019 and have increased sharply this year, per Google Trends.
