
As we expand beyond English, it is important that we add language detection to our television news story segmentation workflow so that we know what language each story was spoken in. Since broadcasts can be highly multilingual, we need this information at the story level and with the ability to tag all of the languages spoken in the story. We also want to normalize these language codes to a global standard like ISO-639. While we run each broadcast through CLD2 language detection with full segmentation enabled, we ideally want to verify this information using Gemini's far richer and more advanced language capabilities. Incredibly, adding rich SOTA language detection to our story segmentation is as simple as adding a single line to our prompt.
