In December 2013, on the 65th anniversary of the passage of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Kalev traveled to Tallinn, Estonia, to present at the Estonian Institute of Human Rights' Annual Conference on Human Rights 2013: Human Rights and Freedom to Association. He spoke on the emerging application of big data towards monitoring human rights around the world and increasingly giving a voice to citizens to document the world around them. Among the topics he covered was how systems like GDELT are increasingly yielding realtime pictures of major developments around the globe.
