In the latest addition to our map series using CartoDB, we plot all worldwide news coverage monitored by GDELT 2.0 from February 19, 2015 through June 2, 2015 that discusses poaching, illegal fishing, and wildlife crime. While you will see a certain number of false positives like "poached eggs" or "poached executives" and a few cases where unrelated article insets or footers were not properly excluded, overall the map as a whole offers a powerful picture of global wildlife crime activity.
What is perhaps most striking about this map is that wildlife crime is not something that happens only in a few wildlife preserves in Africa – it is sadly a global phenomena that affects every country and almost every corner of the globe.
