The research staff at Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA)’s Cross-Country Emerging Markets Unit have produced a fascinating animated map of refugee inflows and outflows across Europe and North Africa from January 14 through June 15. Inflows are in yellow/orange, while outflows are in red. The post-Arab Spring security and rights environment, governmental collapses, and Islamic State advances are all clearly visible on the map, as is their spread.
