Yesterday's Climate Protests Garnered More Media Attention Than All But Two Days Of Paris And Hong Kong Protests

The global climate protests yesterday yielded highly mediagenic scenes at a time when news outlets are devoting an increasing amount of coverage to climatic change. Interestingly, that single day of protest garnered more media coverage than four months of protests in Hong Kong and all but two days of almost a year of Parisian "yellow vest" protests.

The timeline below overlays worldwide media attention to " ("climate change" OR "global warming" OR "climate crisis") AND (protests OR protest OR protesters OR riot OR riots OR strike) " compared with " "hong kong" AND (protests OR protests OR protesters OR riot OR riots) " and " paris AND (protests OR protests OR protesters OR riot OR riots OR "yellow vest" OR "yellow vesters") ".

Zooming into the timeline above from November 1, 2018 to present, the intensity of the climate change protests is starkly apparent, as is two previous protests on March 15, 2019 (when climate change received equal attention as the Parisian protests as students around the world lead a similar climate protest) and August 24th, when it nearly equaled Hong Kong protest coverage in the aftermath of G7 protests.
