Given the key role that the Red Cross plays in disaster response, we wanted to see whether the Google Cloud Vision API could be used to pick out instances of its signature logo from realtime news imagery. The examples below show a cross section of images flagged by the Cloud Vision API as containing the Red Cross logo. Note that these span from prominent illustrative logo use to building signage to jackets to a small sign in the background of a photo to a zoomed image of a vehicle where only the second half of the logo's lettering is visible. In each of these cases the algorithm was able to correctly identify the image.
Such logo identification has tremendous potential for being able to triage the various organizations involved in disaster response, flagging imagery featuring major aid organizations.
