Last week we showed how the word "governor" was being mentioned on television news at rates that have largely been unseen over the past decade, as states play increasingly central roles in the nation's Covid-19 response.
Zooming into just this year, the rampup in mentions of "governors" begins February 27th across all three stations, but really accelerates beginning March 16th. Interestingly, Fox consistently mentions them less than Trump.
This trend is especially visible in onscreen text mentions, with the word "governor(s)" and "gov" slowly taking off at the start of March, but soaring on March 16th and becoming a regular feature ever since.
