Television News Coverage Of Monkeypox Picks Up Slightly

 August 9, 2022

While the WHO was informed of a UK monkeypox case on May 7th, BBC News London did not cover the story until May 17th, with other channels picking up over the following days. The story faded to low-level background coverage until July 23rd, from which time it has received an elevated level of a dozen to a 100 mentions per channel per day.

Onscreen textual mentions of monkeypox follow a similar pattern.
