On the one-year anniversary of Afghanistan's fall to the Taliban, the country remains largely absent from television news. Within two months of the fall, it had largely vanished from the news and has never recovered, with the world seemingly little interested in life under Taliban rule other than a brief burst of mentions surrounding the killing of al-Qaida leader Ayman al-Zawahri. It reminds us of how quickly the world's attention moves on and that to truly understand the world around us, we must look beyond American and major European media to local outlets in local languages all across the world.
