Other than a brief blip in the Spring of 2011 with the Arab Spring, mentions of the word "democracy" on American television news have been steady until they began trending slightly upwards in early 2016 and then doubled almost overnight in October 2016 in the weeks leading up to the election and has stayed at twice its previous level since the election of Donald Trump the following month.
