MAGA Mentions Continue To Grow On MSNBC/MSNOW While The Phrase "Make America Great Again" Has Faded

The timeline below shows that the acronym "MAGA" first burst onto television news in early 2019 and then took off in April 2022, where it has continued to rise on MSNBC/MSNOW, remains elevated on CNN and has a steady state of mentions on Fox News.

In contrast, the literal phrase "Make America Great Again" first surged in 2015 with Trump's original campaign and election, then faded before "MAGA" eventually took over. Interestingly, comparing the two timelines, there is not a transition from one to the other, there is a gap period. After a burst of coverage with his second election, the phrase has largely faded and overall has never received the attention of the acronym.
