One of the most powerful dimensions of GDELT is the way in which it makes it possible to look across the entire planet to see how global events are being covered, contextualized, related and narrated to local populations. How do societies across the world cover global events through spoken and visual storytelling, what are the unique societal framings and contexts they use to describe those events and what insights do those similarities and differences teach us about the planet we call home? As just one example, here is a clip from Iraqi state television the morning of 9/11 showing ordinary daily coverage of the channel and the way it frames and portrays Saddam Hussein's government. In turn, here is an example clip of how it covered the 9/11 attacks and the unique framing and lens through which it covered the attacks.
