The research staff in Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA)'s Cross-Country Emerging Markets Unit (BBVA is the second-largest bank in Spain) produced some really fascinating country risk visualizations of the world using GDELT for their Country Risk Quarterly Report for Q3 2014. They seamlessly blend GDELT's global political risk indicators with a variety of economic and other internal data to produce global risk assessments. Their use of an annual time-series block heatmap is a particularly effective visualization mechanism for observing clustered change and country risk interdependence.
