CNN yesterday raised the question of whether the conservative press is mainstreaming the use of terms like "Nazis" and "Biden regime" in its coverage of Donald Trump. To what degree does this manifest in television news, comparing Fox News to CNN and MSNBC? The fact that Fox News is not mirroring Trump's incendiary language is intriguing and suggests CNN and MSNBC may actually be giving more airtime to the specific wording of some of his grievances than Fox.
Let's first look at spoken mentions of Nazism since the start of 2021. The timeline below makes it clear that the term is not increasing on Fox News. Note that this includes all mentions, including relating to Ukraine.
In fact, Fox News has actually used it far less than its peers. Rachael Madow alone has accounted for 8.9% of all mentions in the past two and a half years.
What about onscreen textual appearances? Fox News has displayed it onscreen less than half as often as CNN or MSNBC and as the timeline below shows, it has always been more popular on those channels than Fox. Note that this attempts to remove Ukraine-related mentions.
What about "Biden regime"? While Fox does dominate mentions of this term, it has largely faded away since the end of last year.
Here too mentions seem to have largely faded away since the the middle of last year, with a single spike in June of this year and 8 seconds earlier this month.
