We're excited to announce today that the AI TV Explorer has been updated with the initial results from the Media-Data Research Consortium's Google Cloud COVID-19 Research Grant “Quantifying the COVID-19 Public Health Media Narrative Through TV & Radio News Analysis", in which Google's Cloud Video AI API was used to non-consumptively analyze and annotate BBC News London, CNN, MSNBC and Fox News since January 1, 2020 and past disease outbreaks attracting significant television on CNN, MSNBC and Fox News since July 2009, coupled with our previous analysis of the evening news broadcasts of ABC, CBS and NBC over the past decade.
For CNN, MSNBC and Fox News, we've only analyzed specific time ranges of their coverage from July 2009 through Dec. 31, 2019, covering the periods of highest media coverage of a specific set of major disease outbreaks. To make it easier to jump to coverage of a specific outbreak, we've updated the "Time Period" dropdown to allow you to select by analyzed outbreak period so, for example, you can select "Ebola (7/23/2014 – 11/30/2014)" to analyze CNN/MSNBC/Fox News coverage between those dates. Remember that these are not the dates of the outbreak, but rather the dates of the most significant media coverage of the outbreak.
We're tremendously excited to see what you're able to do with this new capability!
