Story Segmentation Of TV News: Assessing Robustness Of Computed Story Metadata Over A Decade

Yesterday we demonstrated the remarkable consistency of Gemini 2.5 Flash's segmentation of television evening news broadcasts into stories and computing location, keyword and entity metadata for each. In that experiment we reran the same broadcast five times to assess how consistent each metadata field was across runs. Today we're going to explore how well this new pipeline holds up on broadcasts spanning the past decade, examining one evening news broadcast per year from 2010 to 2019 to test the robustness of the pipeline and how consistently and faithfully it populates each metadata field when given stories from the past, especially smaller more local stories from years ago: is Gemini as accurate at assessing the key details of a minor story from 15 years ago as it is understanding a major story from a few weeks ago? The end result is that Gemini's performance shows no age-related degradation, performing consistently across the entire 2010-2019 sample period.

TITLE: Redheads Potentially Facing Extinction Due to Climate Change
DESCRIPTION: A new report suggests that redheads, including famous personalities like Louis C.K., Nicole Kidman, and Christina Hendricks, might one day become extinct. The genes for red hair and pale skin evolved and were nourished in the cloudy weather of Ireland and Scotland. Scientists theorize that a change in climate, specifically the end of cool mist, could lead to the disappearance of the conditions favorable for red hair.
