The sweep of Covid-19 across the country has displaced mentions of Donald Trump on television news in a way no other story of the past half-decade has been able to do. Since the week of March 8, weekly mentions of Trump on CNN, MSNBC Fox News are at their lowest levels since Fall 2015, when he was still a candidate. Thus far this year, they bottomed out on May 30 and have been rebounding in the days since, but are still at historic lows. Why does this matter? It matters because just months from a presidential election, Trump is no longer the center of the media universe.
