IRIN News: Nepal Earthquake Coverage Bias

IRIN News used the GDELT Global Knowledge Graph to visually demonstrate the bias in international coverage of major natural disasters, showing that despite accounting for less than 7% of deaths, the impact of the Nepal earthquake on Everest climbers accounted for 23% of international coverage of the disaster.  Indeed, the homepage of CNN and many other major Western news outlets focused significant attention for much of April 26th on the fate of the international climbers on Everest, often at the expense of coverage of the impact to Nepalis themselves.
